27 December 2017 5 fashionable New Year’s resolutions

Back to blog overview

New year, new you! Are you also in the middle of writing down a list of goals and aspirations for 2018? This year could also become a year filled with new things and experiments when it comes to fashion. We’ll help you along with a few suggestions!

Work out in style

Haven’t we all added “use that gym subscription” to our list of good resolutions? Go ahead and add “look fabulous while using it”! 2017 was the year when activewear was lifted to a higher level, and now is the time to profit from that! No more showing up to the gym dressed in the same black pair of leggings and shirt every day. Treat yourself to an outfit that makes you shine, even when you’re covered in sweat!

Choose earrings that tell a story

The perfect way to add a bit of fun to your outfit in 2018? Eye-catching earrings! If you’ve scored a few good ones, you can endlessly combine them with a bunch of outfits.

Lott, Triple chain earrings, € 80

Shop sustainably

Every year, it becomes easier (and more affordable) to shop sustainably. More and more brands swear off fur, and high street brands like Juttu and JBC are also taking action to become more durable and sustainable. In 2018, you could invest in a few items that nobody was treated poorly for to produce and that don’t hurt the environment too much.

Host: You won’t only find fun and sustainably produced items at Host, but you’ll also be able to take a break over a steaming cup of biologic coffee. Don’t feel like leaving your couch? No problem, Host also has an equally cozy-looking online shop!

Rombaut: This Belgian brand is the perfect address for sustainable sneakers. You can shop in the Rombaut online store, or in Rewind, a shop in Ghent.

Aurore Van Milhem: This brand uses bits of fabric that are left over from Haute Couture labels and gives them a second life. Because of this, less fabric is thrown away and you’ll be able to add some unique and high-quality items to your wardrobe without a feeling of guilt! You can find the online shop here.

Purchase a statement belt

The time where belts were a necessary evil are long gone. Where you used to buy belts in a  color as discrete as possible, they can’t get too weird nowadays! Go for a model with an eye-catching belt buckle, or one you can wear on top of a dress or top on your waist.

Sacred Hawk, Waist belt, € 33,78 13,51

New Look, Embroidered belt, € 20,26 10,81

Desigual, Belt with buckle, € 35,95

Visit a fashion exposition

2017 isn’t over yet, but there are already a bunch of great expositions planned in 2018. Ideal for a fashionable trip!

Modemuseum Hasselt: “The Vulgar” (until January 14th) shows you the constantly evolving view on vulgarity and fine taste using pieces from 500 years of fashion history.

Kunsthal Rotterdam: “Cabin Crew” (until February 4th) takes you on an exploration of flight attendant outfits from all around the world and through time. You can view over 1400 outfits and discover how these outfits evolved throughout the years.

Modemuseum Antwerpen: You can discover the creative evolution of Belgian designer Oliver Theyskens in the MoMu if you visit the exposition “Oliver Theyskens – She walks in beauty” (until April 15).

Go all-in for color!

Whenever we see an opportunity to promote wearing more colors, we grab it! Keep experimenting with color and color combinations in 2018. Have you already installed our app? No? After you’ve completed our easy self-test, you’ll have your personal color passport with you at all times whenever you go shopping.

If you already have a My Color Passport account, you can try experimenting even more with color combinations in our app. Also, make sure to keep checking our inspiration page for new outfit combinations!

Modemuseum Hasselt: “The Vulgar” (tot 14 januari) toont je aan de hand van stukken uit 500 jaar Europese modegeschiedenis de steeds evoluerende kijk op vulgariteit en smaak. BewarenBewaren
